Great Coffee

and So Much More

How it all began...

Liberation Coffee House is a proud part of the Los Angeles LGBT Center. While our café recently celebrated its fifth birthday, the Center has worked for decades to create a world in which LGBTQ+ people can be healthy, equal, and complete members of society.

It all started more than 50 years ago when a group of queer activists came together to share a dream. After fighting for equality in protests, demonstrations, and parades, they wondered: What if we created the world we have been waiting for?

So they launched Liberation House—a shelter that provided a safe space for LGBTQ+ people. As demand from the community grew, so did the dream. And now, decades later, we have gone from one tiny home to becoming the Los Angeles LGBT Center: the largest LGBTQ+ organization in the world.

Our café’s name pays homage to the original Liberation House, while celebrating Liberation for a new generation.

Today's Liberation Coffee House

If you are looking for an excellent cup of coffee, a friendly place to work, a warm and welcoming destination to gather with friends, or even a spot to enjoy a reaaalllly tasty breakfast burrito, you are in the right place. From fair and sustainably cultivated Verve coffee beans to our local Bakers Kneaded pastries, we craft from a place of thoughtful sourcing, best-in-class partners doing good in this world, and—of course—fresh hot deliciousness.

Most important of all (even more than that breakfast burrito), every cup of coffee poured comes with purpose. 100% of our net profits go back to support our parent organization, the Los Angeles LGBT Center. In fact, many of our shop staffers come to us through the Center’s Culinary Arts Training Program—an incredible platform that prepares LGBTQ+ youth and seniors for employment in the restaurant industry.

So that croissant purchase? It directly impacts the people behind the counter who serve it to you. That eco-friendly reusable mug with the colorful coffee ring rainbow logo (it’s cute, no?) can help a youth currently receiving life-saving services just next door.

We are great coffee, but we are so much more; we are Liberation Coffee House. Thank you for letting us share it with you.
